Noppe (のっぺ)
Noppe is a Japanese local dish. It is a nimono (stewed foods simmered in a soy-and-sake-based sauce) made of mainly taro, and chicken, carrot, burdock, deep-fried bean curd, salmon roe, scallop, mushroom, and so on. Usually it is served cold, but the warm one is also delicious.
The noppe of Nigata Prefecture and of Nara Prefecture are famous.
The soup is thickened with taro, so it doesn't need starch.
Noppei-jiru' (noppei soup) is a different dish.
