The Utsumi Clan (内海氏)
The Utsumi clan (also known as the Uchiumi, the Uchimi, or the Uchikai clan) is a Japanese family name. The clan has originally several lines as follows.
Kiyomaro, a descendant of Nuteshiwake no Mikoto, who was Emperor Suinin's son, was bestowed the ason surname of "Wake," because of his distinguished service, and his descendants called themselves "the Utsumi clan."
Minu no Okimi, a descendant of Prince Naniwa, who was Emperor Bidatsu's son, had a wife named Agata no Inukai no Michiyo, who was bestowed the ason surname of "Tachibana," and her sons, Tachibana no Moroe and Tachibana no Sai, continued to use the Tachibana family name. The descendants of these two sons called themselves the "Utsumi clan."
Minamoto no Yorimitsu was a member of the Seiwa-Genji, who were descendants of Imperial Prince Sadazumi, Emperor Seiwa's son, and the descendants of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, who belonged to the Settsu-Genji, were the Toki clan. The descendants of Yorisada Toki, who belonged to the Toki clan, called themselves the "Utsumi clan."
