Umewaka Gensho (梅若玄祥)

Gensho UMEWAKA is one of the professional Noh actor names of the Umewaka Family, a branch of one of shite-kata (main role) schools of Noh, or Kanze School.

The first Noh actor who used the name was Kuroemon UMEWAKA, or UMEWAKA Kuroemon Gensho. He became well know for his Noh performances in the early part of the Edo period, and is known as the Chuko no So (father of restoration) of the Umewaka Family.
