Soi (素意)
Soi (year of birth unknown - 1094) was a monk and a waka poet who was active from the middle to the end of Heian period. His secular name was FUJIWARA no Shigetsune. He is also called Ki Nyudo since his government post was Ki no kuni no kami (governor of Ki Province). It is believed that he was a husband of Ki of Imperial Princess Yuko family, a woman waka poet.
He participated in 'Rokujosaiin utaawase' and so on. He became a monk in 1064 and moved to Tonomine in Yamato Province in 1071. In 1083, he founded Jakujo-ji Temple in Izumi Province.
Further, he played a role of judge at 'Tonomine Ojoin utaawase.'
Seven of his waka poems are compiled in 'Goshui Wakashu' (Later Gleanings of Japanese Poems) and one is compiled in 'Senzai Wakashu' (Collection of Japanese Poems of a Thousand Years).
