Tetsuya YAMAMOTO (Noh actor) (山本哲也 (能楽師))
Tetsuya YAMAMOTO (March 21, 1966 -) is a Noh actor of Okura ryu Otsuzumi kata (a knee-drum player of the Okura school). He was born in Osaka City. He was graduated from Mino-Jiyu Gakuen High School. He studied under his father Takashi YAMAMOTO (a Noh actor and Otsuzumi-kata [a knee-drum player] of the Okura school) and Tadao KAMEI (a Noh actor, a knee-drum player of a deputy head of Kadono school, and a living national treasure).
In 1988, he formed a Noh group "Hibiki" (- 2002) together with Noh-hayashikata players (instrumentalist for Noh plays) of his generation who lived in Osaka, such as Kosuke SHIMIZU (Kotsuzumi-kata [a small hand drum player] of the Okura school), Tatsushi NARITA (a small hand-drum player of the Ko school), Yoshinori MORIYA (a knee-drum player of the Kanze school) and Hiromi NAKATA (Taiko-kata [a stick-drum player] of the Konparu school). In 2002, he was awarded 咲くやこの花賞 (大阪市芸術文化賞). From the same year, he formed a Noh unit, 'TTR Noh Project,' with Tatsushi NARITA. He has been working on ambitious stage works such as live Noh which is performed outside Noh theaters. It is said that TTR is named by taking initials from Tatsushi, Tetsuya and Revolution.
Designated as the General Important intangible Cultural Property in 2004, he became a member of The Association for Japanese Noh Plays.
