Kanroji Tsuneto (甘露寺経遠)

Tsuneto KANROJI (1576-1602) was a court noble in the Azuchi-Momoyama Period.

He was the 28th family head of the Kanroji family which was Tosho-ke (the hereditary lineage of court nobles occupying relatively high ranks), and the main branch of Kajuji of the Takafuji group of the Northern House of the Fujiwara clan, an important noble family.

Career
He was the second son of Haretoyo KAJUJI, Jun-daijin (Vice Minister) and became an adopted son of Tsunemoto KANROJI, Gon Dainagon (Provisional chief councilor of state). His mother was the daughter of Ariyasu TSUCHIMIKADO, Onmyo no kami (Director of Onmyoryo, or the Bureau of Divination) and Gyobukyo (Minister of Justice). Uhyoe no suke (Assistant Captain of the Right Division of Middle Palace Guards) Toyonaga KANROJI, the son of Kiminaka OGIMACHISANJO, Gon Chunagon (Provisional vice-councilor of state), was his adopted son.

His government service was as Shoshiinojo (Senior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade) Kurodo no to (Head Chamberlain) and Uchuben (Middle Controller of the Right).

His homyo (a name given to a person who enters the Buddhist priesthood) was Zenku. As can be seen in such sources as Keian tekagami (a collection of calligraphy), he had excellent handwriting.
